Summary

This project involved the demolition of an existing 1960’s red brick dwelling and the construction of a new cutting edge luxurious contemporary family residence nestled into the southern hillside overlooking Bronte Beach and beyond, with views extending to the Ben Buckler headland at Bondi Beach to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the east.

The project work involved the demolition of the existing three bedroom brick dwelling on the hillside overlooking Bronte Beach. The property location has a perfect northerly aspect which tied in well with the architectural brief for the clients’ new home which was for an abundance of natural light & ventilation in the living areas and to frame the expansive views to the ocean. This became the cornerstone of the architects’ design which provided numerous split levels internally & externally with spaces having varying degrees of privacy, light & exposure to the views. The design provides a single storey pavilion set perpendicular to a two storey element separating the public & private outdoor spaces & creating an independent backyard. The interior living areas are oriented towards a glass sided infinity edge mineralised swimming pool visually connecting it to the ocean. Dramatic contrast has been created by the architect between the solid elements & the void elements, and changes in volume & height are explored through the progression of spaces.

This bespoke luxury home was designed by the architects with limited to zero tolerance between the composite finishes throughout. Attention to detail was imperative throughout the build to ensure the end result was perfect. Intensive supervision & organisation was required to achieve the level of finish that is evident.

Whether it be – (the steel doors & windows, the large timber sliding doors, the integrity of the off-form concrete finishes, the free-form curved concrete staircase & solid balustrade, the slab stone floors, the multitude of Burmese teak decking/handrails/battens, the high quality bespoke joinery & furniture, the custom-made plaster ceiling elements, the silk hand painted wallpaper, the c+bus automation system, the Hydronic in floor, water & pool heating combined with extensive solar evacuated tubes, the carved marble bath, the cobblestoned forecourt, the hand-cut limestone patchwork walls or the fully grown sculptural frangipani trees) – this house is bespoke, cutting edge, functional & ultimately a family home that the owners are enjoying living within. It is only now that they have lived in this house for some time that they truly understand & appreciate what effort, skill & workmanship is involved in creating such a zero-tolerance bespoke masterpiece as is their new luxury beachside house.
